2021 ARRL Field Day Results

posted Dec 25, 2021, 12:13 PM by Gene Jacobsen

In 2021, CKARS again operated 6-Alpha at Camp Catalpa behind Lake Reba in Richmond, Kentucky. Operating CW and Phone from a mix of Solar and generator power, this was the first year in many that the iconic Airstream was missing in action.  However, the club was blessed with good and favorable weather for the duration.

CKARS came in nineteenth overall with a score of 11,798 having a total of 3,528 QSOs. This gave the club the first in category (6A) with the next club at 7,350 (W4DW + W4RNC) out of Raleigh ARS.  CKARS also placed third in the Great Lakes Division, bested by the Black River Radio Ops by just a mere 66 points.  Other comparisons can be searched at the ARRL Result Database.

Field Day, whether Winter or Summer is a good way to enjoy some company and to test your skill and gear.  Digital has been a challenge the last few years, but looking ahead to 2022 - some issues should be well resolved.  Come join us for the fun, food and friendship, ARRL Field Day is always held on the 4th full weekend in June.  Start planning now.

Seems we could possibly have some weather this year.

As it stands currently we are looking at the possibility of rain.  Please plan accordingly, with tarps or tents to protect operator and equipment alike.

Got your checklist? The days are counting down -

This year we will operate as either 4A or 5A as we have in the past.  We have locked in for CW and Phone, but could use GOTA, VHF and Digital.

We are expecting to start lofting lines Friday Evening (Time TBA) for ease of setup Saturday.  Saturday arrival has to be established, but expect may to start arriving to stage things around 10am.

Operating:
80 -
40 -
20 - Byron and Kevin

Also of note, there is a new playground (noted with the Red box).  Antenna placement may need to be adjusted from previous years to prevent snags and 'curious fingers'.
